We get so focused on the things we DO, we often lose touch with how we're BEING. Yet it's the qualities of our being that contain and shape everything we do and say as coaches. (Ever do a task as a chore? And later do the same task as a game? Two different ways of being!) As the saying goes, it’s not what you do. It’s who you’re being when you do it.

So how do you show up for your clients?

Every coach has a unique way of showing up for their clients, deeply rooted in who they are as a human being.

I call it your "essence."

And it's the living, breathing soul of your coaching business.

Others can sense it. But few coaches have actually distinguished and named their essence.

For instance, my client Jane, an energetic leadership consultant and coach for healthcare organizations, shows up as Joyful Discovery, Common Sense, and Deep Curiosity. Beneath any skills, techniques, or programs, these are the qualities of who she is. When Jane enters the conversation, the fun of discovery, down-to-earth sensibleness, and deeper questioning become available. It’s simply who she is.
